Athlete's Foot Treatments That Work

If you have athlete's foot, there are lots of natural ways to treat it that don't require medication. Natural products can be found at your local grocery store or drug store. Tea tree oil has antifungal properties and works to kill the fungus on the feet. Both baking soda and vinegar have been shown to help treat athlete's foot. The key is to avoid getting it in the first place by keeping your feet dry and avoid walking barefoot in places where fungus thrives.

If you have an itch on your foot that you can't stop scratching, you may have the dreaded athlete's foot. But don't worry, because there are five natural ways to treat yourself that don't require a doctor or prescriptions.

Proceed to the store.

Your best athlete's foot treatment may be available at your local grocery store or drug store. Look for creams and ointments with the active ingredient clotrimazole or miconazole. These are topical creams that can be applied directly to the feet.

Simply reapply the cream to clean, dry feet after showering, and then cover with a pair of cotton socks. After that, the cream should be reapplied two to three times per day for two to three weeks.

Taking the natural path

Another great way to treat athlete's foot is to use a more natural oil, similar to the store method. Tea tree oil has antifungal properties and works to kill the fungus on the feet.

Begin with clean, dry feet, and then apply the oil to the affected areas. This can be repeated several times per day for as long as the symptoms persist.

Remedy from the kitchen

To use the baking soda, soak the feet in a solution of the powder and warm water. Use apple cider vinegar instead of baking soda if you have it on hand.

Some people believe that soaking your feet in bleach is an effective treatment for athlete's foot. However, you must proceed with caution or risk injuring your feet. In a gallon of warm water, use no more than two tablespoons of regular laundry bleach.

Soak your feet for ten minutes and you'll notice a difference in a week.

Keeping the itching and redness at bay

And, while garlic is effective against vampires, it is even more effective against athlete's foot. This is because the antibiotic ingredients in garlic aid in the treatment of the infection. Simply rub a clove of garlic (cut in half) over the affected area several times per day.

However, the best advice for treating athlete's foot is to avoid getting it in the first place. Keep your feet dry and avoid walking barefoot in places where the fungus is likely to thrive, such as public showers and shoe stores where you can try on shoes without a barrier.

Of course, good hygiene will always keep your feet clean, happy, and hopefully itching-free.
